Chopta The Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand

What should you know about chopta?

Chopta, at an altitude of approximately 2,608m, is popularly known as Uttarakhand’s’mini Switzerland. It is located in the Garhwal Himalayas. Chopta, surrounded by velvety meadows or bugyals and snowcapped peaks, is a year-round holiday destination. The Panch Kedar, the five most sacred Shiva temples of the state, is located at the heart of Chopta. To its left, Madmaheshwar and Kedarnath shrines are found, while Rudranath, Kalpeshwar, and the Tungnath temple can be found just above them. Chopta is birding heaven.

You can see more than 240 species of birds, including both native and migratory species such as Himalayan swiftlet and Himalayan griffon. The best places to watch our feathered friends are close by, such as Dugalbitta and Mandal village, Makkumath, Tungnath trekking route, Makkumath, and Makkumath. When should you visit Chopta?

Chopta is a great place to vacation all year, but November through May are the best months.

Chopta Tourism

The trekker’s paradise is Chopta, a tiny hamlet in Uttarakhand. It is the base camp for treks such as Tugnanath and Deoria Tal. Intermediate trekkers will find it a great place to go on guided treks and improve their skills. Chopta promises to expand your horizons in a way that will change your life.

Tugnanath is approximately 3.5km from Chopta. It houses the third Panch Kedar temple. It is a joy to camp in the grassy meadows that slope gently on Chopta, among pine, alpine, deodar, and rhododendrons. The panoramic views of Chopta are dominated by the snow-covered peaks Nanda Devi, Chaukhambha, and Trishul.

Chopta’s suggested Itinerary

Day 1 — Enjoy the local cuisine to kick off your trip. Explore Chopta, Deoria Tal, and the surrounding wilderness.

Day 2 — Begin your day with a trek towards Tungnath Temple. Enjoy the magnificent view and the tranquility of Tungnath Temple as you camp for the night.

Day 3 — Trekking up from Tungnath towards Chandrashilla. Take pictures and enjoy the view from that point. You should also visit Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary on your way back.

When is the best time for Chopta to be visited?

As the main trekking routes reopen, the summer months are the busiest for Chopta. This is why The best time to visit Chopta from March to May is in the Summer. Chopta’s climate is mild and the terrain is deciduous. This means that Chopta is subject to drastic seasonal changes. Even though the area is lush and fertile in the summer, it can become dry and snowy in the winter. While this limits your travel options, it promises you a wonderful time in the snowy cold.

CHANDRASHILA TREK

A brief description

Chandrashila is literally “Moon Rock”. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 4,000m (13,000 ft). above the sea level. Chandrashila Peak offers a stunning view of the Himalayas including Trisul, Kedar Peak, and Bandarpunch peaks. This place is associated with many legends. One legend states that this is where Lord Rama meditated after defeating Ravana the demon king. Tungnath Temple, the highest Lord Shiva Temple, can be visited while on this trek. It is very easy to do on your own. It’s not an authentic trekking experience, as the Tungnath temple is reached via a cemented path. The Chandrashila peak can be reached by a well-paved road. Dayara Bugyal trek and Kedarkantha trek are both options if you want to experience real trekking. These popular Himalayan treks of 4–5 days are a great way to learn basic trekking skills like how to pitch a tent and how to use a sleeping bag.

Sari — Deoria Tal (2.5 Kms hike)

Day 3

Deoria Taal- Rohini Buyal Trekking distance 8 kms

Day 4

Rohini Bugyal-Chopta/Martoli. 6 Kms trek.

Day 5

Martoli/Chopta- Tungnath- Chandrashilla-Chopta. 9 Kms Trek.

Day 6

Road Journey from Chopta, Haridwar (186 Km).

These modules will allow you to develop the skills necessary to move from trekking to climbing over time.

Personal Attention

To maintain healthy participants, our trek group size is limited to 15 people. Leader ratio of 8:1.

This number has been proven to be the best for providing personalized attention to each member of our group over time.

This number is even lower on mountaineering expeditions. The maximum group size is 12 people, which ensures a Participant: HAP Ratio (or 2:1)

The Best Expedition Leaders

Our Expedition leaders have advanced mountaineering training, are certified first-aid responders, and trained in NIM rescue procedures.

Even local guides are first-aid certified.

Eco-friendly practices

The maximum group size is 15 people.

The maximum batch size is 250 people per trial, per season.

We use a rolling camping model.

To reduce the burden on existing trails, we are always exploring new ways to make them more efficient.

Safety

We believe that summit success is more than reaching the top of a mountain. It’s about getting back to safety.
